Just after two years, R-rated hit The Housemaid, the sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, will arrive in theatres on December 17, 2027. Lionsgate announced on Monday that director Paul Feig‘s upcoming thriller is set for wide theatrical release after years of anticipation. Housemaid posted a 3-day domestic opening of $19M, legging out to a massive 6.6x multiple of $126.5M stateside. It earned $125m in North America and $271m internationally for a $397m global tally.
Helmed by Paul Feig, she returns to direct the project and will once again bankroll it through his Pretty Dangerous Pictures with business partner Laura Fischer, Hidden Pictures’ producer Todd Lieberman, and Sweeney through her Fifty-Fifty Films. Here’s what to expect from the film.

The Housemaid’s Secret is all geared up to hit the silver screen next December. It centers on Millie (Sweeney), the lead of the initial film, who agrees to keep house for a woman she is never allowed to see. Eventually, Millie discovers the truth behind the locked door that hides secrets darker than even the ones she herself keeps.
Feig returns from the first film to headline the sequel from a script written by Rebecca Sonnenshine. She also penned the screenplay for the 2025 movie. Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar featured as lead actors in The Housemaid, which was a massive hit. Interestingly, Lionsgate optioned Freida McFadden’s novel trilogy before the books became best-sellers. Fans and movie buffs now await the Housemaid’s Secret magic to hit the screen.
