Helmed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl has officially hit the theatres. Following the success of Superman, expectations from the freshly released movie were sky high. Surprisingly, the landscape has officially expanded its horizons with the global theatrical release of DC Studios’ Supergirl.
For the unversed, it draws inspiration from Tom King’s acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic. The drama chronicles Kara Zor-El’s deeply personal journey across the galaxy alongside a determined young girl named Ruthye. as a revenge quest gradually evolves into a story about grief, identity, and finding hope after unimaginable loss. Critics have praised Alcock’s commanding performance, even as reactions to the film itself have been more divided. Here’s what fans have to share!
So I ended up watching Supergirl. It’s decent. Milly while not my first choice did give a fine performance, although I still feel she’s kinda miscast. Momoa as lobo was great. The young actress who portrayed Ruthye was good. Enjoyed the Superman & Krypton scenes. Didn’t care… pic.twitter.com/zlsFUklutl — Szymanski (@Szymansk_ii) June 26, 2026
Supergirl promises to be rougher and more cosmic in style than Superman. Written by Ana Nogueira, the entertainer presents a different version of Milly Alcock than what the audience has ever seen before. Viewers watched the film and took to their official social media handles to share their two cents about the film.
The Supergirl movie actually opened up one or two plot holes in Superman for me & I don’t like it…. and now I can’t stop thinking about it bc the math ain’t mathing 😭 pic.twitter.com/7I80HM7lCZ — dayra (@vixensupes) June 25, 2026
One user commented, “Supergirl was awesome btw. And I’m sure some loser will repost this and laugh about how I enjoyed something. Sorry I’m allowed to enjoy something. Also no one is paying me. Because if someone paid me. I can clearly quit my part time job, pay bills and go on vacation.” Other said, “just got out of #supergirl and it was incredible. there is genuinely no reason it should be rated that poorly by critics other than the deep-rooted misogyny that seems to be a pattern amongst viewers in female led superhero films.”
Well I was pleasantly surprised with Supergirl. The reviews were mixed so I went in without high expectations but I had a good time. ALSO, I think it’s really good marketing to be handing out issue 1 when you show up at the theater. pic.twitter.com/dRRYXf6MJ7 — Comic Tropes (@CTropes) June 26, 2026
A user praised Milly’s performance by writing, “milly alcock is the best part of supergirl she carries the entire film and is perfect as kara, any criticism of her performance is completely ridiculous my issues with the film have absolutely NOTHING to do with her.” The film showcases survival and resilience.
