Helmed by Rahul Sankrityan, “Ranabaali” marks the first film of the real-life couple, Rashmika and Vijay. Since its announcement, the first poster teaser, and trailer release, the film has sparked significant buzz online. After months of anticipation, the day has arrived, leaving fans ecstatic to witness the drama on the silver screen. Though the film has locked horns with Rajinikanth’s “Jailer 2,” which arrived in cinema halls yesterday, “Ranabaali” is expected to have a separate target audience and fan base. Here’s a closer look at the early reviews and reactions from fans and critics.
#Ranabaali Honest Intentions, Patience Testing Execution! The director sincerely tries to tell real stories/events set against a beaten to death British backdrop, but the dead slow screenplay and flat narration test your patience. VD-Rashmika’s portions provide some relief and are the film’s main highlight, but the film lacks the emotional connect a subject like this needs and feels lifeless and tiring for long stretches. Production values and set design stand out. VD’s effort is visible and he gives a sincere performance, though his characterization and histrionics feel odd at times. BGM is a huge letdown, and the film badly needs trimming. Sincere effort, but a strictly boring watch. Rating: 2/5 — Venky Reviews (@venkyreviews) October 16, 2026
An X user shared, “#Ranabaali first half – ️️️️ #VijayDeverakonda – #RashmikaMandanna track works well. Scenes depicting the Britishers’ atrocities stand out as highlights. Powerful dialogues, captivating pre-interval sequence.” Talking about Vijay and Rashmika’s chemistry, a fan wrote, “Ranabaali. Baahubali. Is Tollywood gearing up for another Baahubali-level cinematic experience? #VijayDeverakonda & #RashmikaMandanna together on screen is PURE FIRE! The hype is REAL!

On the other hand, a sharp negative reaction from an early reviewer read, “Headache telugu movie of the year.” Another one wrote, “Sincere But Lacked Impact! Rahul Sankrityan’s sincere attempt has a few good moments. Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s chemistry, the pre-interval sequence, songs, and a few high moments work well. However, predictable writing, repetitive scenes, and excessive runtime affect the overall impact. A stronger second half could have made it better.”
#ranabaali The first half is very slow. The second half is just the same. The British sequence is poorly executed. The only positive is Vijay Deverakonda, but the climax is slow. Another failure for Vijay Deverakonda is certain 1.3/5 #vijaydevarakonda #rashmikamandanna https://t.co/MHZNMrgzrx — YaSh BLR (@Bazzar90) October 16, 2026
Vijay Deverakonda essays the role of Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali, a rebel warrior who confronts British colonial oppression. Opposite him, Rashmika Mandanna plays Jayamma, his wife, while Arnold Vosloo portrays the British antagonist, Sir Theodore Hector. Through the film’s historical setting, the film explores the resistance against British rule and the struggle to protect local communities.
