The 98th Academy Awards, or Oscars 2026, were held today at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony was hosted by Conan O’Brien. Many big stars marked their presence. However, one actor, who was a part of the One Battle After Another movie, won his third Academy Award but didn’t show up.
The actor we are referring to is Sean Penn. Penn won an Oscar for his performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. It was the third time the actor won an Academy Award. Penn won Best Supporting Actor, leaving behind his co-star Benicio del Toro, Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Delroy Lindo (Sinners) and Stellan Skarsgård (Delroy Lindo). Sean played Col Steven J Lockjaw in the film and delivered a phenomenal act.
When presenter Kieran Culkin called Sean Penn as the winner in the Best Supporting Actor category, the veteran star didn’t show up on stage, as he wasn’t present for the Oscars 2026 ceremony. Culkin then informed the audience, “Sean Penn couldn’t be here tonight, or didn’t want to, so I’ll be accepting this award on his behalf.”

The One Battle After Another star was on his way to Europe and was on his way to Ukraine. However, this isn’t the first time Sean didn’t attend an award ceremony. The actor also missed the Actors Awards (previously known as the SAG Awards) and the BAFTAs.
