Chalte Chalte Casting Story And Chitrangada’s Career Trajectory
After years, the cat has been out of the bag. Surprisingly, in a recent promotional interview for Raat Akeli Hai, Chitrangada Singh spoke about her big mistakes and life lessons that made or broke her career. The actress revealed that she has been listening to voices that weren’t always her own has made her miss out on big projects too. She stated, “I said no to Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). Anurag (filmmaker Kashyap) had come to me for the role that Richa Chadda eventually did.” Additionally, she also turned down 2011’s Tanu Weds Manu, starring Kangana Ranaut opposite R Madhavan. Recalling her big mistakes, she said, “I think Kangana was brilliant. She was mind-blowing in that film. I think I made some really bad mistakes. You think other people know better, but that’s not always true.”
One of her bad decisions was missing out on a big opportunity opposite SRK. It means that before Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chitrangada Singh was in the picture. Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji’s Chalte Chalte was a box office hit in 2003. Initially, Aishwarya Rai shot Chalte Chalte for a day, and later, due to some conflict involving Salman Khan, director Aziz Mirza replaced her with Rani Mukherjee.
Chitrangada didn’t really turn down Chalte Chalte but missed it as she had stepped away from work and changed her contact number. Recalling it, she stated, “The one I didn’t say no to but still missed was Chalte Chalte (2003) with Shah Rukh Khan. He told me this himself when we were shooting an ad together. He said they were looking for my number. I had left work for seven or eight years. That’s when it really hits you.”
Recently, Chitrangada stars in Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Rajat Kapoor. She declares that as an actor is important to remind people of the work you have done and what you are capable of.
