Moana Box Office Collection: Catherine Laga’aia, Dwayne Johnson’s Rakes Approx $42 million Domestically
Disney’s live-action Moana arrived in cinema halls on July 10, 2026. Starring Catherine Laga’aia and Dwayne Johnson in the lead roles, the film opened on a lukewarm note at the box office. According to reports, the drama collected $18 million from 3,875 North American theaters.
Helmed by Thomas Kail, the new version of Moana comes a decade after Disney released the original animated version of the tale. As per Variety, the first installment raked in $642 million by the end of its run and is one of the most-watched titles ever on Disney+. Talking about the second chapter, Moana 2, which was retooled from a scrapped made-for-streaming Moana TV show, set a Thanksgiving weekend record with a $225 million debut. Moana saw tough box office competition on July 10. It locked horns with Evil Dead Burn. The film is on track for a domestic opening weekend total of $42 million to $45 million. Talking about its Indian collection, earned 6 lakhs net at the Indian box office on the first day. The 3D film collected 5 lakhs by running across 1,082 shows with an occupancy of 11 percent. Meanwhile, the Hindi version earned 1 lakh net from 610 shows, recording an occupancy of 8 percent.
For the unversed, the film is based on a screenplay by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. It is bankrolled by Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The cast features Dwayne Johnson, reprising his role as Maui from the animated films, and marks Catherine Laga’aia’s feature film debut as Moana. Other than the leads, the cast includes Rena Owen, John Tui, Frankie Adams, and Jemaine Clement, who also returns as the voice of Tamatoa.
