Matka King Trailer OUT: Vijay Verma’s Crime Drama Offers a Glimpse of the Rapidly Transforming 1960s Bombay

Prime Video just dropped the trailer for Matka King. Set against the vibrant spirit of a transforming 1960s Bombay, the crime drama features Vijay Verma in the lead role. Directed, written, and created by Sairat filmmaker Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, Matka King is nothing short of a masterpiece. Bankrolled under the banner of Roy Kapur Films, Aatpat, and SMR Entertainment, the drama is slated to hit the digital screen of Prime Video on April 17, in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Alongside Vijay Verma, the drama boasts a stellar starcast including Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, Bhupendra Jadawat, and Gulshan Grover in pivotal roles. Also created and written by Abhay Koranne, the series chronicles the life of an ambitious cotton trader who dares to defy the odds in 1960s Bombay. Matka King Trailer Revealed: What to Expect from Vijay Verma’s Crime Drama?

Matka King features Vijay Varma in the titular role, alongside Kritika Kamra, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Jadhav, and others. The drama follows the gripping saga of Vijay Verma’s character, who builds a bold new gambling empire known as ‘Matka’ and turns an exclusive pastime of the elite into a nationwide phenomenon. 

The freshly dropped trailer takes one through the world of Brij Bhatti, played by Vijay Varma. He is a sharp, enterprising cotton trader who dreams of a better life in post-Independence Bombay of the 1960s. With one bold idea, he turns gambling from an elite pastime into something huge, giving birth to ‘Matka’. But the higher the stakes, the darker the consequences. What starts as a dream could shatter everything. 

In a nutshell, the gripping trailer narrates a story of ambition, power, and the price of it all, leaving you with one question: Will the Matka King’s dream pay off, or come crashing down? Talking about his lead role as Brij Bhatti, Vijay Verma shared, “Bringing this world and this character to life was both challenging and deeply fulfilling, especially in the backdrop of a different era altogether that I had never explored before.”  The drama also marks the actor’s return to a Prime Original after Dahaad and Mirzapur. The creators, Nagraj Manjule and Abhay Koranne, gave him the creative freedom to dive deep into Brij’s world. He further added, “At its heart, Matka King is a story of ambition, power, and the price one pays for success, which I feel is universal, and will therefore be an engaging watch for audiences in India and around the world.” 

On the other hand, Kritika Kamra shared, “This series tells a story about people, power, and personal journeys.” The drama also features Bharat Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Jamie Lever, Kishor Kadam, Cyrus Sahukar, Arpita Sethiya, Sambhaji Tangade, Ishtiyak Khan, Sanjivv Jotangia, and Simran Ashwini in key roles. 

All in all, Matka King narrated the story of a man who dares to fight for respect and pursue his dreams, and, in doing so, changes the ecosystem around him. The director believes that every frame reflects tension, ambition, and high stakes, with period-accurate interiors, props, costumes, and lighting to enhance the characters’ emotional journey. Fans and the global audience will now have to wait until April 17 for the masterpiece to unfold.
