Kathanar Teaser OUT: Jayasurya, Anushka Shetty, Prabhu Deva’s Horror Fantasy Shot for Nearly 5 years, Here’s WHY!

The teaser trailer of Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer was unveiled on March 31, 2026. Starring Jayasurya and Anushka Shetty in lead roles, the horror fantasy thriller is emphasized on an ambitious fantasy world rooted in Kerala folklore. Directed by Rojin Thomas, the film is billed as one of Malayalam cinema’s most expensive projects. The freshly released teaser trailer offers a sneak peek into a richly imagined medieval world filled with magic, action, and suspense. 

The visual grandeur and detailed world-building of the film make it stand apart from the rest of conventional Malayalam cinema aesthetics. In a nutshell, the preview signals a high-stakes fantasy narrative. The project spanned nearly five years, involving about 500 people and pioneering the use of virtual production technology in Indian cinema. 

Kathanar Teaser Trailer Revealed: What to expect from the Malayalam Cinema?

Bankrolled by Gokulam Gopalan and Krishnamoorthy, Kathanar’s 2 minutes and 58 seconds is visually rich and appealing. The teaser kicks off with a dark world and features subsequent cutting action. The suspenseful storyline of the 9th-century pan-Indian fantasy is inspired by the legendary Kadamattathu Kathanar, a priest believed to have supernatural powers. Having said that, the film reimagines him as a complex figure straddling sainthood and sorcery. All in all, the teaser hints at creative departures from familiar retellings, blending horror elements with epic fantasy. 

The film boasts a stellar starcast that includes Jayasurya, Anushka Shetty, Prabhu Deva, Vineeth, Harish Uthaman, Nitish Bharadwaj, Devika Sanjay, Sanoop Santhosh, Sandy, Sreekanth Murali, and Kulpreet Yadav, with Mohanlal appearing in a cameo role. The film will be released in multiple languages, including Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and English. The makers are yet to officially announce the film’s release date.
