Karuppu, starring Suriya, is dominating the box office right from the day of its release. After looking at the numbers and positive feedback, it is safe to say that the fantasy-actioner has exceeded expectations at the worldwide box office. Even after 10 days of its anticipated release, the Tamil drama has left no stone unturned in inviting movie buffs to the theatres.
Both in India and abroad, the film has maintained its strong run, scoring Rs 200 crore globally in just 8 days. Helmed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu stars Suriya as Saravanan, a lawyer who becomes the human avatar of the deity Karuppusamy. Alongside the actor are stars Trisha Krishnan. It is no news that the film may surpass the Rs. 300 crore mark before the end of its run.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Karuppu has achieved worldwide success. It has garnered Rs 172.38 crore in India and Rs 67 crore overseas. This brings its total gross collections to Rs 239.38 crore and Rs 148.85 crore net. By running across 55,995 shows, the occupancy rate of the film lingers around 30 to 60 percent, which is remarkable.
Released on May 14, 2026, Karuppu has ended the drought for Suriya after contributing to cinema for over 10 years. Also, the timing of the film release could not be better for the Tamil film industry. Additionally, it has knocked down Thalapathy Vijay’s Master, which concluded its global lifetime at Rs 223 crore gross, hailing as the fifth-highest Indian grosser of 2026. To enter the top 10 highest-grossing Tamil films worldwide, it must garner over Rs 300.98 crore gross and dethrone Varisu, which grossed an estimated Rs 290 to Rs 306 crore globally during its theatrical run.
