Despite all the buzz around its release, Karuppu has exceeded all expectations at the box office. The film was scheduled to release in theaters on May 14, but due to financial reasons with distributors, it was delayed by a day. Without a doubt, the Tamil star Suriya’s comeback arc is getting stronger with each passing day. The film has collected Rs 14.40 crore nett in India on its opening day. According to Sacnilk, the film recorded its collection across 4,891 shows and registered an overall occupancy of 50.35 per cent on day one.
The film leads the charts of the biggest openers. Karuppu opened with Rs 15.5 crore, Parasakthi with Rs 12.35 crore, Love Insurance Kompany collected Rs 6.85 crore, Kara raked in Rs 6.2 crore, and Youth earned Rs 3.65 crore. Take a closer look at the numbers and occupancy rate of Karuppu.
Directed by RJ Balaji, the Tamil action drama registered a strong opening on the first day of its release. As per the industry tracker Sacnilk, Karuppu raked in around Rs 15.50 crores net in India on its release day. The figure got translated to nearly 18 crores gross domestically. Talking about its overseas collection, the film opened to the Rs 29 crores mark, making it the third biggest for the lead actor Suriya. Not just that, Karuppu hails as the biggest opening of 2026 for a Tamil film.
Furthermore, the Tamil version recorded a 25 percent occupancy rate in the morning shows. Gradually, it jumped to 46 percent in the afternoon. In the evening, it climbed up to 53 percent. Last but not least, the night shows scored 75 percent, indicating the positive impact of word of mouth. On the other hand, the Telugu version opened decently, with an average occupancy of 28 percent throughout the day. Now, all eyes are on the film’s first week collection!
