Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office: Rishab Shetty’s Film Smashes Rajinikanth’s Coolie Record in Just 6 Days!

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 was released in theatres last week, on October 2. A prequel to his 2022 superhit Kantara: A Legend, the second film is performing quite well at the box office. In its first week, Shetty’s mythological action drama has crossed over Rs 400 crore worldwide. What’s fascinating is that the film has managed to smash Rajinikanth’s Coolie records.

Coolie was also one of the biggest and most awaited releases of 2025 and was released in theatres in August, clashing with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2. Kantara Chapter 1’s sixth-day box office collection has surpassed the lifetime collection of Thailava’s action drama.

On day 6, Rishab Shetty’s film has earned Rs 33.5 crore (net) in India. The film’s total collection so far now stands at Rs 290.25 crore net and Rs 348 crore gross in India. Coming to its global box office performance, the numbers are picking up very slowly. Overseas, the film has collected over $7 million, thus making the worldwide collection Rs 414 crore in six days.

With such outstanding numbers, Kantara Chapter 1 has already smashed Rajinikanth’s Coolie’s box office collection. As reported by Sacnilk, the India net collection of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film is Rs 285.01 crore (337.5 crore gross) in India. The overseas collection was Rs 180.5 crore, thus making the worldwide collection Rs 518 crore. It would be fascinating to see how many days Rishab’s film would take to surpass Coolie’s worldwide collection.

Kantara Chapter 1 also left behind the lifetime collection of Kantara: A Legend. The 2022 film earned Rs 408 crore worldwide, which the 2025 release has already surpassed. Meanwhile, Rishab Shetty’s film is made on a budget of Rs 125 crore. Shetty also directed and co-wrote the story, which also features Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram. At the end of the movie, the makers revealed that there will be a third film titled Kantara Chapter 2. The release date for the same has not be revealed yet.
