Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan witnessed significant buzz online. On the first day of its release, the film raked in Rs 42.70 crore by running across 13,067 shows. Helmed by H Vinoth, the action-political drama is positioned as Vijay’s farewell film, ending his acting career and stepping up as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. After months of delay, Jana Nayagan released on July 23. It garnered mixed reactions from the early audience, with many praising the electrifying performance of Thalapathy Vijay. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, as of day 2, the film has collected Rs 75 crore gross. From the overseas market, it raked in Rs 37.50 crore, bringing its worldwide collections to 112.50 crore gross.
Talking about the occupancy rate, on Friday, Jana Nayagan registered 32.77 percent occupancy during the morning shows, followed by 37.23 percent in the afternoon. As the day progressed, occupancy improved, with 47 percent in the evening and 60.31 percent during the night shows.
Looking at the current buzz surrounding the film, especially in the Tamil-speaking state, director H Vinoth shared, “Whenever a Vijay sir movie comes out, for about a week people say this is good, that isn’t good, this doesn’t work, that doesn’t, and all that. Then after a week, they say it’s not that great after all. Six months later, it starts becoming a big hit in society.”
Alongside Thalapathy Vijay, the film stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Prakash Raj in key roles. All in all, fans and cinephiles are celebrating the film just like a festival as it marks the end of Vijay’s three-decade-long acting career, spanning over 60 films.
