Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, opened to mixed reviews on July 23, 2026. After a seven-month delay, the political-action drama hit the silver screens, making the release nothing short of a grand celebration. Fans and movie buffs gathered in large numbers to capture the final glimpse of Thalapathy Vijay, who is now the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

On its first day of release, the film grossed Rs 50.28 crore across 13,067 shows. Through the overseas market, it raked in Rs 30 crore, bringing its total worldwide collection to Rs 80.28 crore.

As per the trade-tracker portal, Jana Nayagan collected a net of Rs 42.70 crore on the opening day. It grossed Rs 2.07 crore from the Hindi version, Rs 45.08 crore from the Tamil version, and Rs 3.14 crore from the Telugu version. Among these, the Tamil version had the highest occupancy rate at 60 percent. The morning shows saw a 73.85 percent occupancy, afternoon shows had 62.46 percent, evening shows recorded 63.62 percent, and night shows achieved 73.31 percent occupancy.

Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film also boasts a stellar cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju. Unfortunately, the film couldn’t beat the first-day openings of Vijay’s previous blockbusters Beast, which minted Rs 49.30 crore, and GOAT, which minted Rs 44 crore. As per the latest reports, Jana Nayagan has emerged as the third biggest opener of the year at the Indian box office, collecting Rs 42.70 crore net on its opening day. Topping the list is Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar 2 with a whopping Rs 145 crore opening, followed by The RajaSaab that collected Rs 62.9 crore.
