Recently, AR Rahman shared his thoughts on the movies made in Bollywood. The Oscar-winning musician stated that he had not received work easily for quite some time and that there is communal bias in the film industry. The musician received a lot of flak online for his remarks. Now, Imtiaz Ali has shared his thoughts on AR Rahman’s remarks.
Imtiaz Ali and AR Rahman have collaborated for several films, like Tamasha, Rockstar, and Chamkila. In an interview, Ali shared his views, which were different from Rahman’s. The director said that he doesn’t think there is a communal bias in the industry. Despite his long career in Bollywood, he has never witnessed any communal bias.
Further, the Tamasha director told India Today, “AR Rahman is one of the brightest figures that I’ve met in the film industry. I do not actually believe that he made all the comments that are being attributed to him, or maybe it’s been misconstrued.” Ali added that he knows that what the people are perceiving isn’t exactly what the Oscar-winning music composer has said. Imtiaz concluded by saying that he doesn’t remember any single incident where there was communal bias or animosity.
Meanwhile, the BBC received the interview with Rahman, which faced serious backlash. After the backlash, the Taal composer shared a video statement clarifying that he calls India his home and how, with music, he always tried to connect, celebrate and honour the country’s culture.
