HBO Original Harry Potter Series: When to Watch and What to Expect?

On March 25, HBO released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone TV series. The two-minute-nine-second glimpse showed a lot more than expected. It introduces the three central characters, namely Harry (Dominic McLaughlin) and his friends Hermione Granger (Arabella Stanton) and Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout), who meet as 11-year-olds on the train to their first year at wizarding school.

The trailer kicks off with Harry being shoved into his bedroom, a dark cupboard in the Dursley family home, and shows him being bullied by his spoiled cousin, Dudley Dursley. Harry soon receives the fateful letter inviting him to attend Hogwarts. The trailer then shifts to the boy meeting Rubeus Hagrid, the groundskeeper of Hogwarts. It shows him traveling on the London Underground and the Hogwarts Express. There is a scene of Harry arriving at the magical school, where he receives his wand and Nimbus broom. He also meets his new classmates, including Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

Alongside the leads, the series also features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will premiere on HBO Max this Christmas, several months earlier than its projected air date of 2027, and almost 30 years after the first book (also known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) was published.
