Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Release Preponed? Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, Pooja Hegde’s Rom-Com to Premiere in May

Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde’s romance comedy drama created a lot of buzz since the day of its poster reveal. The film was earlier slated for release on 5 June 2026, but will now hit cinemas earlier, on 22 May 2026. The Varun Dhawan starrer would have locked horns against Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aunga, which is hitting theatres on June 12, 2026, as well as Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown Ups, scheduled to release on June 19. To avoid the box office clash, the makers might have decided to prepone the film’s release by a month.

Directed by David Dhawan, Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is expected to be packed with colors, high-energy music, and nostalgic elements. The first look of the youthful entertainer is also going to be dropped tomorrow. Closed sources revealed that the teaser leans heavily into nostalgia while maintaining a contemporary edge and echoing the filmmaker’s classic comic flair.

Looking at the freshly released posters along with the new release date announcement, the David Dhawan film promises to be a light-hearted love triangle. Alongside the leads, the film also features Chunky Pandey, Maniesh Paul, Jimmy Sheirgill, and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles. 

The makers took to their official social media handles to announce the first look reveal. However, the producers announced their decision to delay the reveal by a day as a mark of respect to the legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away on April 12. Their statement read, With the passing of legendary Asha Bhosle ji, we pause to remember a voice that shaped generations of music and emotion. As a mark of respect, we will now be releasing the first look of ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ tomorrow instead of today, keeping her fans and family in our prayers. May her soul rest in peace.”
