Manoj Bajpayee and Adah Sharma’s financial crisis drama, Governor: The Saviour, hit the theatres on June 12. However, due to multiple releases, the film opened on a dismal note. Helmed by Chinmay D. Mandlekar, the film collected Rs 90 lakhs on its debut day. Over the first weekend, the film strived to gain some momentum, attracting an audience through strong word-of-mouth. As of day 4, the film collected a net of Rs 3.67 crore, bringing its gross earnings to Rs 4.46 crore.
On June 12, the film locked horns with its rival releases, including Main Vaapas Aaunga, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Backrooms, Disclosure Day, and others at the box office. Hence, it faced severe competition at the ticket window and opened on a very low note.
As of today, 7 PM IST, Governor has collected Rs 27 lakhs by running across 1,119 shows with an occupancy rate of 10 percent. Although audience turnout remained limited on the opening day, the reviews from the viewers were highly positive.
Backed by Sunshine Pictures, the political drama has been drawing attention for its story, inspired by a crucial chapter in India’s economic history. Taking to their social media feeds, the makers announced the buy 1 get 1 free ticket offer. The caption read, “Witness the story behind India’s turning point. Buy 1 get 1. Use code GOVERNOR on BookMyShow.” It is now interesting to know if the film gains a miraculous momentum.
Talking about the reviews, an Instagram user praised Manoj Bajpayee’s performance in Governor: The Saviour, writing, “I have seen the movie and it is very nice and highly researched . Manoj Bajpayee is really one of the best actors of india . I really wish the movie to be successful.” Other viewer added, “I watched the movie just because of manoj sir and its top level of story.”
