Last week, Manoj Bajpayee announced a new movie that would hit Netflix this year, titled Ghooskhor Pandat. However, the announcement was faced with severe backlash, as it translates to corrupt Pandit, which many feel is an “insult” to the Pandit or Brahmin community. Following the backlash and several FIRs, director Neeraj Pandey has decided to change the movie’s title. However, it has still not put a rest to the controversy.

Ghooskhor Pandat: FWICE’s Demands

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) president BN Tiwari has said in an interview that merely changing the name of the movie is not enough. Tiwari wants the movie team to host a special screening of Manoj Bajpayee’s Ghooskhor Pandat to seek community approval for its content. Tiwari also stated that if the team releases the film without holding a special screening, they would take action against the filmmakers and those associated with it.

In the interview, BN Tiwari emphasised the importance of understanding the depiction of the Pandit community in the film, as titles are essential to a movie’s storyline. Tiwari told the Hindustan Times, “We are shocked and surprised that such big names as Neeraj and Manoj did this and used the name of the community in the title. The film should not be released without the screening. The makers need to get a go-ahead from the community before releasing it. If they get it, then we don’t have any issue with it.”

Furthermore, the FWICE president claimed that the movie’s team also didn’t register their title with the film body. Tiwari himself reached out to concerned bodies, who informed him that Neeraj Pandey’s team had not registered the ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ title with them. “If they had got the title registered with us, we would have raised our concerns at that moment only,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ghooskhor Pandat is directed by Neeraj Panday and Ritesh Shah and focuses on a corrupt police officer who has to deal with a high-profile case in Delhi. The movie is slated to release on Netflix in 2026.
