It is indeed a moment of pride for regional cinema as Abhijat Marathi OTT has been launched at the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The global launch was attended by prominent Marathi actors, including Ashok Saraf, Nivedita Saraf, Prajakta Mali, Ankita Walawalkar, Jayanti Waghadhare, and Kedar Joshi, founder of Abhijat Marathi OTT. While the world was swooning over the Bollywood and Hollywood personalities, India’s regional cinema hit a major milestone.

Marathi actors and content creators carried Indian heritage and culture on the global platform. On May 18, Abhijat Marathi, an OTT platform dedicated to Marathi content, was officially unveiled at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2026, marking a significant moment for Marathi entertainment and regional storytelling.

Veteran actors from the Marathi film fraternity stole the spotlight at the international film festival. Actors Nivedita Saraf and Ashok Saraf graced the Cannes 2026 red carpet, showcasing their Marathi culture. Meanwhile, actresses Prajakta Mali and Ankita Walawalkar turned heads in complete traditional attire.

Ashok Saraf looked dapper in a white bandhgala paired with black trousers. Meanwhile, his wife, Nivedita Saraf, dazzled the red carpet in a traditional Paithani saree. She completed her look with traditional jewellery, nath, and a gajra in her hair. The couple posed for the paparazzi on the red carpet and greeted the audience with folded hands.

On the other hand, Prajakta Mali donned a peacock-blue Nauvari. What elevated her pure Maharashtrian look was the classic Maratha jewelry, particularly the Brahmani Nath, a pearl-studded nose ring, matching gold studs, and a gold Thushi, which is a choker comprised of gold beads. Her wrists are adorned with a variety of classic green glass bangles and solid gold bangles, which stand for prosperity and good fortune.

Kokan hearted girl, aka Ankita Walawalkar, sported a beautiful baby pink Nauvari saree from Kapse Paithani, accesorized with pearl jewellery. Her ensemble stood synonymous with her roots. Her saree featured designs of coconut trees and flying birds.

Last but not least, Jayanti Waghdhare wore an ivory Paithani gown on the red carpet. She also looked very beautiful in this look with green bangles in her hands, a crescent moon on her forehead, and a nath in her nose.

For the unversed, Abhijat Marathi is much more than a mere Marathi OTT platform. It focuses on a broad digital ecosystem encompassing Marathi cinema, devotional programming, lifestyle, infotainment, and AI-driven new forms of storytelling.
