Bringing an end to its two-year release pattern, Netflix has confirmed the return of Bridgerton Season 5 in 2027. The fifth instalment of the much-loved series is expected to chronicle Francesca and Michaela’s love saga. For the unversed, in March 2026, the OTT giant unveiled the first-look teaser for the new season. After months, on Wednesday, Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria shared a major update on Bridgerton Season 5 during the company’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York.
As the new love story takes the center stage, production for the fifth chapter has already begun in the UK. Moreover, it is confirmed that Hannah Dodd will be essaying the role of Francesca Bridgerton, and Masali Baduza will portray the character of Michaela Stirling. The new couple will now headline the eight-episode series.
Based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels, Bridgerton Season 5 will focus on Francesca, the introverted middle daughter who lost her husband John two years ago. She then decides to reenter the marriage mart for practical reasons. However, when John’s cousin Michaela (Masali Baduza) returns to London to tend to the Kilmartin estate, Francesca’s feelings crop up complications. She will now wonder whether to stick to her pragmatic intentions or pursue her inner passions.
Earlier, Bridgerton Season 4 was released in two parts on Netflix between January and February this year. It focused on the love story of Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, and Sophie Baek, portrayed by Yerin Ha. The season saw the sad demise of Francesca’s husband. All in all, fans just need to wait for a year more to know how Fran, as a widow, moves on in life.
