Big Setback for Sameer Wankhede as Delhi HC Throws Out Defamation Case Over Aryan Khan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood
Aryan Khan, the son of Shah Rukh Khan, made his directorial debut with the Netflix series, The Ba***ds of Bollywood. The web show received a lot of love from the critics and viewers alike. However, former Narcotics Control Bureau Officer Sameer Wankhede wasn’t pleased with it and filed a defamation case against the production house, Red Chillies Entertainment. Wankhede had an issue with the officer’s portrayal in the show, which he believed was a dig at him.
What Did the Delhi HC Tell Sameer Wankhede?
Now, months after Sameer Wankhede’s defamation lawsuit, the Delhi High Court has given a hearing. In their hearing, the Delhi HC rejected Sameer Wankhede’s defamation suit against Aryan Khan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav stated during the hearing that the Delhi court lacked the authority to consider the complaint (Sameer). The court requested Wankhede to file his plea to a court of competent jurisdiction.
On the other hand, Sameer Wankhede’s lawyer, K Sai Deepak, argued that their defamation case was valid in Delhi, citing various reasons. One reason is that Wankhede has relatives in the city, and there are also pending departmental proceedings involving the former NCB officer there. Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment also called out territorial maintainability, stating Sameer Wankhede should’ve filed the defamation case in Mumbai. The lawyer for Red Chillies also pointed out that Sameer resides in Mumbai, and the production house has its registration there. So the defamation suit should’ve been filed there and not in Delhi.
