Balan: The Boy Box Office Collection: Chidambaram’s Directorial Premiered at Cannes, Mints Over Rs 11 Worldwide
Director Chidambaram’s film Balan: The Boy is still continuing its strong momentum at the box office. On the first day of its release, the film minted Rs 1.82 crore. Gradually, the drama picked up, driven by strong word of mouth and positive reviews. Released on June 19, 2026, the film’s total worldwide gross collection stands at Rs 20.42 crore.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 96 lakhs by running across 990 shows. This brings the total India gross collections to Rs 11.92 crore and the total India net collections to Rs 10.29 crore so far. Not to forget, the numbers are indicative of the growing appeal of Malayalam cinema beyond the home turf.

Director Priyadarshan, Balan: The Boy has drawn acclaim for its performances, atmosphere, and precise observations. It is a psychological thriller focusing on the themes of identity and survival. The film follows the saga of a young boy and his mother, who are in jail for a crime unbeknownst to the audience. When the mother and son are released from Kannur jail, she is told by the queenpin of the prisoners, sex worker Shamnatha (Beena Antony), that she will come in search of her when she is released.
