James Cameron’s Avatar Fire and Ash was among the most anticipated films of 2025, released on December 19. Though the film received mixed reviews from fans and critics, it managed to perform decently at the box office domestically and internationally. On the first day, it earned Rs. 19 crore, while on day 2 of the first week, it collected Rs. 11.67 crore in India, taking the overall net collection to Rs. 28.11 crore.
The action-fantasy is a visual spectacle loaded with higher emotional tension. It follows the narrative of its 2022 predecessor, Avatar: The Way of Water. The fresh chapter is centred on the conflict between human invaders and the Na’vi over the planet’s resources. It has won the hearts of some fans, while a few call it visually appealing yet predictable. Surprisingly, Avatar 3 has failed to beat Avatar 2’s box office collection, which grossed Rs. 48.50 crore on its first day in India. On the first day, Avatar 3 earned an estimated Rs 19.00 crore in India and Rs 11.67 crore on its second day. It is quite evident that the pent-up demand for an Avatar film, pretty much present during the The Way of Water screening, isn’t there in play this time. In India, the highly animated film has collected Rs. 30.67 crore at 5 p.m.
Speaking about how the film performed internationally, Avatar: Fire and Ash opened with $16.1 million collection on Wednesday in 18 markets. According to Luiz Fernando’s report, the film added another $27 million across 25 markets, bringing its overseas total to $43.1 million. Though the third installment from the Avatar franchise is underwhelming, its worldwide collection stands at $55.1 million cume in just two days.
