Akshaye Khanna walked out of Drishyam 3 due to disagreements over his remuneration and look in the film. His sudden exit amidst Dhurandhar’s tsunami sparked discussions around the actor’s breach of contracts. The controversies piqued everyone’s interest after questions concerning the actor’s professional commitments and contractual obligations began to be raised.

In a recent public interview, Section 375 director-writer Manish Gupta opened up about his legal dispute with Akshaye Khanna, alleging unprofessional conduct and contract breach. Here’s what’s buzzing while the Drishyam 3 controversy continues to unfold.

Akshaye Khanna Contract Breach Controversy Explained

Director and writer of the 2019 crime-thriller Section 375, recalled his turbulent experience while working with Akshaye Khanna. Manish Gupta revealed that the actor did not adhere to the committed timeline. He had signed his film with Kumar Mangat as producer for a fixed remuneration of Rs 2 crores. After receiving an advance payment of Rs 21 lakhs, the contract was signed. However, Khanna gave away the selected dates to another movie, The Accidental Prime Minister, and he flew to London for the shoot. As a result, Manish Gupta and his crew were left idle for a period of six months.

After Khanna returned, he demanded Rs 3.25 crores and breached the already-signed contract of Rs 2 crores. In addition, he wanted to have the film’s reins under his control. Since the director doesn’t give in to the whims of any actor, he did not bend over the star’s unreasonable behaviour. He also pestered the producer Kumar Mangat to remove Gupta as the director of the film and get him on board. Manish Gupta stated, “Producer Kumar Mangat, instead of disciplining the actor’s unreasonable behaviour, made me a scapegoat and removed me as the director while seizing my fully-written bound script and the hard drive containing my three years of hard work on the pre-production.”

Furthermore, the director sent two legal notices to producer Kumar Mangat and also warned Akshaye. His lawyers, Naik Naik & Co., were about to file a case at Bombay High Court against both of them, but Kumar Mangat promptly did an out-of-court settlement with Gupta. After years, producer Kumar Mangat is facing the brunt of Akshaye’s unethical behaviour in Drishyam 3, compelling him to take legal action against the lead actor.
