According to police, the incident occurred around 12.30 am on Wednesday. The 16-year-old, born to the father’s first wife, and her two younger half-sisters from his second marriage lived with their father, a forex trader, and their mothers.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Atul Kumar Singh said that all three girls were with their mothers before they went to the puja room, locked it from inside, and allegedly used a chair to jump out of the window one after another.
“They died on the spot. Security guards and residents on the ground floor woke up after hearing loud noises, and family members on the ninth floor were alerted soon after. Police were informed immediately, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination,” Singh said.
Police said the sisters left behind several handwritten notes expressing remorse, along with a diary containing a crying caricature. Investigators claim the girls were deeply addicted to an online task-based game and believed they were Koreans, even portraying themselves as “Korean princesses” under its influence.
“They were not attentive to their studies and followed all daily activities together, even going to the bathroom as a group. This behaviour reportedly intensified after the Covid-19 pandemic, when their gaming addiction grew,” Singh added.
The 16-year-old was reportedly studying in Class 4 at the time of her death. While it is not yet clear whether the alleged suicide was linked to any specific task within the game, police said the family was aware of the girls’ addiction and had tried to restrict their mobile phone usage. However, the sisters allegedly managed to regain access to devices repeatedly.
Authorities have seized the mobile phones and are analysing them to gather details about the game and online activity. Further investigation is underway.
