Teen Relative of J&K Governor Dies by Suicide; Note Mentions Being ‘Haunted by Spirits’

Aarav Mishra, a 16-year-old and the grandnephew of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, died by suicide on Sunday at his residence in Kanpur’s Kohna area.

According to the police, Aarav left behind a suicide note claiming he was being haunted and tortured by spirits, which were pressuring him to either take his own life or harm his family.

The incident occurred during the Chhath Puja festival when Aarav’s parents, Alok and Divya Mishra, were in Bhagalpur for the celebrations. His sister was at college at the time, and Aarav was at home with his grandmother.

Suicide Note Mentions ‘Haunting’

A handwritten note was recovered from the scene, confirmed Kohna Station House Officer Vinay Tiwari. “The note refers to harassment by what he described as ‘spirits’. The case is being treated as a suicide. Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances,” Tiwari said.

Reportedly, Aarav had earlier told his sister that he could see an unknown entity urging him to kill his family or himself.

Police are examining Aarav’s phone, laptop, and online activity to determine whether any external influence played a role in the incident.

On Monday, senior BJP leaders visited the Mishra residence to express their condolences.
