Senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar’s suicide note named DGP Kapur and seven others, accusing them of harassment and discrimination.
In a late-night development, Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur was sent on extended leave after his name appeared in the note. Y. Puran Kumar was found dead at his Chandigarh home last week.
Y Puran Kumar was a 52-year-old, 2001-batch IPS officer posted as Inspector General at the Police Training Centre in Rohtak’s Sunaria.

Investigators recovered an eight-page suicide note in which he named eight senior IPS officers, including DGP Kapur and former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya, accusing them of harassment and tarnishing his reputation.
In the note, Kumar wrote, “They ruined my career and peace of mind. The system failed me.” He also alleged caste-based discrimination and professional isolation. Following this, SP Narendra Bijarniya was transferred from Rohtak, and the state government sent DGP Kapur on leave pending further inquiry.
Probe into Alleged Harassment
According to reports, Kumar was under stress over a bribery case involving a local head constable who allegedly demanded Rs 2.5 lakh from a liquor contractor in Kumar’s name. The constable, now in judicial custody, was arrested after the contractor filed a complaint.
Cabinet Ministers’ Response
On Sunday, Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi said, “His family has been assured that the entire Cabinet stands by them. We have already transferred the Rohtak SP at the instance of the family. A detailed probe is underway. The government is engaged in resolving all of its issues.”
