Mumbai: In Maharashtra’s Thane, a college student committed suicide allegedly after a group of people thrashed him over a Hindi-Marathi language row.
The student was identified as Arnav Laxman Khaire, a first-year science student and a resident of Kalyan East in Thane.
According to the student’s father, his son was thrashed by a group of people on the train he routinely took to reach college.
During one such commute, an argument broke out and at least five people beat the student severely over the Hindi-Marathi language issue.
Arnav Khaire’s father, Jitendra Khaire, told the police that his son committed suicide after the assault caused him mental stress.
Police have launched an investigation, and a search is underway to find the accused.
