Viral: Woman Explains Why 1 Lakh Monthly Salary Should Not Be Called ‘Average’ or ‘New Normal’

A woman has questioned the notion that making Rs. 1 lakh every month is now considered a standard salary in India. By showcasing more content from people with high salaries, she claimed that social media may be altering how people perceive income.

Additionally, she pointed out that sometimes things like Rs. 12 lakh or Rs. 20 lakh every year are referred to as average online, even if these comparisons might not accurately reflect what the majority of people make. On her Instagram account @paisokiseekh, she discussed in a video how discussions about salaries have changed online.

“Someone has a Rs. 12 LPA package? Okay, fresher salary. Someone has a Rs. 20 LPA package? Decent. Someone has Rs. 30 LPA? Bro, give me a referral. Then some people will show up and say, ”I am only 22 and I earn Rs. 2 lakh per month.” Bro, ‘only’? Do you even know what all can be done with Rs. 2 lakh?” she said.

“But honestly speaking, Rs. 1 lakh is not the new normal. Our perception of normal has changed because social media will never show you an average person. It shows you only the top earners in their respective fields. So, think twice before comparing your salary to anyone on social media,” she added further.

She then stated why she thinks Rs. 1 lakh a month shouldn’t be regarded as the new norm. In addition, the debate elicited remarks from people who concurred that social media may distort income levels.
