Tata Sons Chairman Steps Down Before AGM, Will Not Seek Reappointment

Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran has resigned. He is resigning before the company’s yearly general meeting on August 18. “I have spent 40 years working professionally for the Tata Group,”Chandrasekaran stated in a statement.

I am grateful for the incredibly satisfying opportunity to contribute to this esteemed institution. It has been a great privilege and a deep responsibility to lead Tata Sons for the past ten years. Chandrasekaran’s current term expires in February 2027. Chandrasekaran stated in his statement that he would not seek reappointment after his term.

The statement continued, “I have requested the Board to choose a successor shortly to guarantee a smooth transition.” Amidst a disagreement between Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and Chandrasekaran as well as tensions with the shareholders, the resignation occurred.

Chandrasekaran says in his declaration that he chose to step down since one of the board members (likely Noel Tata) did not back the extension of his term beyond 2027 and because there wasn’t unanimous support for it.
