Social media has been taken over by the story of a software engineer’s career path, which began in 2015 with a monthly salary of Rs. 37,000 and ended with a package of approximately Rs. 2.2 crore. Tech professionals are interested in learning how he was able to make such a big leap in his package and his incredible wage growth over the past 11 years has garnered their attention. The tech professional used Reddit to chronicle the significant career moves, promotions and decisions that enabled him to dramatically increase his income over the years.
Learning, gaining experience and making the correct career choices may create new possibilities, as his adventure illustrates. He said that he began his career in 2015 at a service and consulting business, making Rs. 37,000 per month. He stated that the company had a strong technological culture and that the position would provide him with the chance to gain knowledge and develop substantial expertise.
After four years, he was promoted, increasing his monthly pay to about Rs. 1.1 lakh. He eventually decided to leave since he felt he had grown complacent, even if he believed it was a good wage. He stated that the relocation allowed him to experience a significant corporate structure and helped him comprehend how a huge technology company operated. But when the Covid-19 epidemic hit, his workload grew dramatically and he ultimately suffered from poor mental health.

He was offered a position at a real estate firm in the United States after a few months. He claimed that the Rs. 50 lakh every year deal was not a large increase over his previous income because he was jobless at the time. He got a promotion in less than eight months, bringing his pay package to Rs. 65 lakh a year. By the conclusion of 2021, his pay had increased to around Rs. 70 lakh after the year end assessment.
He opted to pursue a new path in May 2022 by taking on the role of chief technology officer (CTO) at a fintech startup. Even though one of his co-founders eventually left, he kept up with the business for a few more months. He then decided that the business would be difficult to sustain and started looking for employment in August 2024. He joined an Indian startup in October 2024 with a technology leadership position and a package of Rs. 1.2 crore. He was offered Rs 1.5 crore by a different FAANG company in February 2025.
In retrospect, he claimed that he didn’t come from money and didn’t go to a Tier 1 university.
