NASA Astronaut Anil Menon with Two Others Lifts Off for A Mission to the International Space Station
Tuesday saw the launch of NASA astronaut Anil Menon and two Russian cosmonauts aboard a Soyuz MS-29 spacecraft from Kazakhstan for an 8 month mission to the International Space Station, as per the reports. At 8:17 pm IST, as reported by PTI, the rocket carrying Anil Menon and Russian cosmonauts Pyotr Dubrov and Anna Kikina launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome.
The spacecraft will dock at the Prichal module automatically at 11:56 pm IST after a three hour, two orbit voyage to the station. The mission of Menon, Dubrov and Kikina is anticipated to last eight months, as stated above, with a scheduled return to Earth in April 2027. NASA said Menon will ‘perform scientific research and technology demonstrations aimed at advancing human space exploration and benefiting life on Earth.’
Anil Menon’s Career:
He started his career as a flight surgeon at NASA in 2014, working with astronauts on the International Space Station. He joined SpaceX in 2018 and immediately established the company’s medical program, aided in the planning of its inaugural human space flights and was heavily involved in the creation of Starship, the super heavy rocket and spacecraft designed to carry out missions to the moon, Mars and other destinations.
He was chosen as a NASA astronaut in December 2021 and the next month he enrolled in the two-year training program, as per the reports.
