Maharashtra to Mandate Domicile Certificate to Obtain Driving Licence from August 1
If you are planning to apply for a driving licence, then you must check the new update released by the government. Now, to obtain a driving licence, you have to submit the domicile certificate.
In accordance with a new policy designed to improve the licensing procedure, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik informed the legislative assembly on Tuesday that the Maharashtra government will require a domicile certificate for the acquisition of a driving license beginning on August 1, 2026.
According to PTI, he stated that the plan has been submitted to the Law and Judiciary Department for clearance and will be put into effect after receiving the necessary approval. From April 2025 to March 2026, transportation authorities discovered 814 cars that were running without the required licenses, seized 151 vehicles, filed 14 FIRs, and collected fines totaling Rs 16.25 lakh, according to Sarnaik.
The minister also said that the government’s policy seeks to legalize bike taxi services while prioritizing passenger safety, regulating drivers, increasing state revenue and creating jobs for youngsters.
