Candidate Surprised After Seeing Over 16,000 Applicants Applying For Entry Level IT Job, Netizens React
A post revealed that a position for an IT support specialist that required just a high school diploma received over 16,000 applications. “I just can’t believe how many people are competing for one position,” one jobseeker said, astonished by the fierce competition. The applicant stated that earning a degree, certifications and experience was not enough to get a job in the current environment, wondering whether the applicant was overreacting.
“Over 16,000 people in 2 weeks have applied, including over 600 in the last 24 hours alone. It’s an entry level IT support job requiring a high school diploma and 0-2 years of experience,” the applicant wrote. “Are other people finding it harder and harder to get a fair chance at employment, even if they have the necessary experience and qualifications, or am I overreacting?” the user said.
“We’re approaching some kind of dystopian reality where thousands of increasingly qualified people are forced to compete against one another for even the most basic employment opportunities, as if landing an entry level job that pays enough to live independently has somehow become a privilege rather than a reasonable expectation,” the applicant mentioned.

The candidate described the job market as a dystopian reality in which even educated individuals are compelled to vie for entry level positions.
“What’s even more concerning is that LinkedIn shows 25 percent of the candidates as senior level professionals. So not only are people trying to break into the industry competing against thousands of other applicants, but they’re also potentially competing against people with years of experience.”
